Rick T Hall

Ricky Thomas Hall, 68, of Stanton, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Stanton, Kentucky. Rick was born on January 24, 1948 in Martin, Kentucky, the son of the late Adrian and Olive Rose Turner Hall. He grew up in Floyd County, and was a graduate of McDowell High School. At McDowell, Rick earned all-state honors as a basketball player in 1966 and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Marshall University where he was a member of the basketball team from 1966 to 1970. Following his graduation, Rick began teaching and coaching, first at Russell Independent schools, then at McDowell High School and later at Powell County High School. At Powell County, he taught English, coached both Boys and Girls Basketball and eventually retired as the school’s Athletic Director. Following his retirement, Rick loved to spend time with his daughters and their families in Seminole and Largo, Florida, where he owned a second home. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife: Stephanie Wells Hall; two daughters: Erin Elizabeth Bortner (David) and Rikki Allison Westerman (Jim) both of Seminole, Florida; two step-daughters: Heather Wells Combs (Shannon) of Richmond and Rebecca Wells of Stanton; one brother: Donald Hall (Jeanne) of Hunnington, WV; one sister: Sandra Stevens (Duane) of Visa, CA; a brother-in-law: Donnie Sexton of Paris, KY; five grandchildren: Victoria and Ashlyn Bortner, Lilly Westerman, Braeden and Whitley Combs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Karen Hall Sexton. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky with Rev. Arnold Turner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Family Cemetery at McDowell, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Friday at The Stanton Christian Church in Stanton, Kentucky and from 5-9 PM Saturday at the Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be: David Bortner, Jim Westerman, Travis Sexton, Evan Hall, Tony Hernandez, Jim Hall, Braeden Combs, Brian Fields and Mike Sheets. Honorary Pallbearers will be: John & Gail Brewer, James Edward & Kathryn Dennis, Mark & Maria Reed, David & Megan Davis, Dave & Mary Collins, Tim & Christine Dudley, Danny & Evelyn Neely, Mike & Diane Chandler, Johnny Ray Turner, Donnie Sexton, Shelia Steele, Greg Briscoe, Diane Meadows and his former colleagues of the Powell County School System. The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home of Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
